I'm a late on this but last Summer there was an art exhibit in Chicago featuring Valmor Prodcuts labels and imagery. I would have loved to have seen it.

The link below has amazing pictures from Valmor Products and King Novelty Co. There is even a comic of how a person could gain wealth by becoming a door-to-door sales agent! I especially loved the pictures of the beautiful models. I think it would be really awesome if these hair styles would make a come back. Also, if the imagery seems familiar to you it should. Cat Yronwode took a lot of the imagery for use on her labels for her products.

"Eastern Voodoo" - The Truth Behind Serbia's Notorious Witchcraft Subculture

The following clip deals with traditional Serbian folk magic. I find it mind-boggling that people actually call it "Voodoo", much in the same way that people in the U.S. call hoodoo "Voodoo" as well. There is a fascinating "corn reading" shown that I would love to learn more about. Note that it is traditional to bring gifts to the reader/worker as payment. Here, the payment is mostly made in money but in man cultures and traditions of folk magic gifts are accepted.

The Witch Review

So I just got home from watching the movie, The Witch. I was very pleased. I actually left the theater with that excited feeling you get where you immediately want to talk to somebody about the movie, about things you noticed or observed as well as talk about anything you may not have quite understood.

First and foremost, the score and sound effects truly made this movie what it is. They literally set the tone for the film and supported it throughout. For those who may not know, the movie revolves around a family who is forced to move out of town and homestead. I won't get into the "why'" here, you will just have to watch the movie. Unfortunately, the family chose land that bordered on a wooded area where a real witch lived. I'm not talking Wiccan, Pagan, or Hollywood witch. This is the hardcore Satanic witch from medieval paranoid fantasies. As such, this was once a normal human being but who sold her soul to the Devil in exchange for supernatural powers. Since she has no soul she is inhuman, beast-like, and quite frankly a monster. She can not be redeemed, only killed. All traces of the witch's former humanity are long gone. The movie treats her almost like a force of nature.

The witch has all the powers shared with her kind. Her true form is a hideous hag but she can shape-shift into a beautiful form. She can fly. She can shape-shift into animals. She blights crops and sickens and kills livestock and humans. Unfortunately for the family, the witch has turned her wrath against them.

What really makes the movie work is that even though the family knows that all the evil stuff going on around them is the work of witchcraft they ultimately don't know who is behind it or why. So such a situation often invokes an insane level of paranoia and that's what we see in the movie. The paranoia continues to grow as the family spirals down further toward it's destruction. The conclusion of the film is shocking but it is so masterfully shot that it is in it's own way quite beautiful.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give The Witch an 8. I would recommend it to interested viewers. I would also add that it may be best to watch it at night and especially when you are in a particularly spooky mind-frame. The movie probably would have fared far better had it been released around Halloween-time.

The Witch (2016)

I'm quite excited by this movie. It is based on what people actually believed about witches prior to the rise of Wicca in the 1950s. Although the trailer doesn't reveal a great deal it does show classic signs of witchcraft or bedevilment, such as blood in the milk, the kidnapping of infants, and possession by diabolical entities. Not really displayed in the trailer but detailed in the plot summary for the movie is also the failure of crops. Of course we also get a quick glimpse of a hag at the end.

So for those who may not know, the actual plot involves a family in 1630 who unfortunately is homesteading on land next to woods where an alleged witch and/or witches are active.

There's a lot of buzz currently about this movie and it has rave reviews. It's only playing in select theaters and lucky for me I live near a theater that will show it tomorrow. I will do my best to see it and if I do I will gladly report to my readers my review of the film and if I recommend it to others.

Unsure Of Who To Vote For?

First of all, I need to apologize as this will be a political blog entry. Politics and conjure work don't exactly mix well but we are currently in a unique position to truly make a difference in the next presidency. Well, let me be more specific, blunt even. We will either with our votes pave the way for a future that will lead to true greatness for our country or we will sink deeper into corporate slavery. That's most of what I will say on the matter. I will let the following videos speak for themselves and then end with some comments below.






All you need to know is that Bernie Sanders supports and will bring us the following if elected:

1. Increase of minimum wage to $15 a hour.

2. Guaranteed equal pay for women. (Probably pass a law making it a federal crime for women to be paid less than men for doing the same job.)

3. Nation-wide police reform.

4. Universal Health Care (I've been vocal about this for years. Free health care should be viewed as a natural right. Obamacare is a bait-and-switch as it still upholds corporate interests and still requires payment as well as punishes those who can't afford it.) The way this works will be similar to what is currently in existence in most other nations, where there is free health care for citizens. There will be waiting lists for non-emergency procedures. However, everyone will still maintain the right to pay for their own health care insurance plans if they so chose.) Hillary Clinton currently opposes this. I write currently because she flip-flops on issues and says whatever she thinks the public wants to hear. Just like with her stance on gay marriage. For years she opposed it and only supported it when it was clear that the political wind was blowing in that direction.

5. Free public college (No more potential will be lost due to the inability to afford college. Every citizen will have the opportunity to attend free public college. At the same time, everyone will retain their right to pay for private colleges if they so chose.)

The future is in our hands. One way or the other we will get the nation we deserve. Let's chose real change and make this nation great. Don't we deserve far better? Vote Bernie Sanders 2016.

Just an FYI: Unlike Hillary, Bernie doesn't accept huge corporate donations for his campaign. His campaign is funded by everyday people. His average donation is $33.

Happy Valentine's Day And Q&A - February 14, 2016

So today is Valentine's Day, the day celebrating romantic love. I always loved this holiday. As a kid I would marvel and look at awe at all the pretty foil heart and lace decorations as well as the vintage cupid ones. I really enjoyed the sweets. Chocolate is always great for today but let's not overlook all the fantastic cookies and cupcakes! lol (I'm not supposed to have any after my surgery but I'm hoping that my reader get their fill for me!)

I also found out that I have a secret admirer. I received a box in the mail yesterday with no name or return address. Inside was pretty red and pink tissue paper with red, pink and white heart confetti covering a heart-shaped box of chocolates, some Valentine's peeps candy, and a bag of organic chocolate peanut butter cups. It made my day. So, secret admirer, whoever you are, thank you! I had one of each and gave the rest away to friends and family. I guess my secret admirer wasn't aware of my surgery but it's the thought that counts and it was truly a nice gift. 

Now, on to Q&A.

Q: 

"Can you make a straight man gay?"

A:

No. However, you can seduce and have sex with a straight man. If you play your cards right you can have a sexual relationship with that man that may last for some time.

Q: (Same person) 

"If you can get a straight man to have sex with you then why can't you turn him gay?

A:

You can get a straight man to have sex with you because there is no such thing as 100% straight or 100% gay. Sexuality is a spectrum. The majority of people fall somewhere in the "bi" category, even if they are just bi-curious. And that's whether or not they decide to act on it. You see, a lot of men find certain, key word certain, other men attractive. They may chose not to act on their attraction and may think that by denying their attraction or choosing not to act on it that this means they remain straight. However, as long as that attraction is there then you can seduce them. I don't know about women, but for men, I've read that about 40% of men admit in anonymous sexuality surveys that they've experimented with other guys, usually as teens or in college. Most of these men will go on to identify as straight. Many of them who enjoyed their same-sex experimentation may continue to do so. Then there are those who are curious and who never experimented in the past but still have that desire to. All you need to do is be able to identify the body language of attraction. If you can sense that this straight man is attracted to you then he probably is. Where there's attraction there's the potential for sexual expression. Since conjure work can and is used to bring about sexual expression between folks, then it can be used in this situation. The current trend among young people is label themselves as "mostly straight" or "mostly gay". I actually met a young man not too long ago that identified as "mostly gay". He said he usually prefers men but every now and then will meet a woman that he falls hard for. So go figure. 

Q:

"I need your help with this situation. If a woman curses an evil woman and then that woman curses her back and then later dies, can the curse be removed? The woman knows the evil woman cursed her because her spirit came to her in a dream."

A: 

The traditional belief is that once a person who did the curse/jinx/crossing/hex/magical attack, whatever, is dead then either the curse can't be removed or it is extremely difficult to remove. I've encountered such scenarios with clients in the past. It's a very difficult, time-consuming and power-draining situation that usually required multiple efforts made and can be quite costly. In fact, most people who are involved in such situations really don't want to pay what is required to have it removed. They don't understand the seriousness of the situation and think that paying $30 for a candle will solve the matter or even worse, think that they have the power to take care of it themselves. Unfortunately, most of these people spend the rest of their lives being cursed.

Q & A - February 4, 2016

Question:

"Does Pre-World War 1 Hoodoo still do animal sacrifices or not? Just curious, because you said, "it evolves out of Plantation Hoodoo".

Answer:

Plantation hoodoo is long extinct. There are a few individuals online who claim to practice "plantation hoodoo" but in reality these individuals are initiated into various African Traditional Religions and are merely pulling info and practices from such and then claiming that they are practicing "plantation hoodoo".

Animal sacrifice has always been a part of hoodoo from the very beginning unto today. There are four types of animal sacrifice. The four types are:

1. Animals which are sacrifice to feed a deity or spirit. The deity or spirit feeds off of the blood or life force of the animal.

2. Animals which are sacrificed in order to take off evil or sickness from a person.

3. Animals which are sacrificed in order to obtain parts of their body to be used as ingredients in spells or workings. These animals may or may not be tortured before being killed.

4. Animals which are tortured and killed as part of enemy work or actual witchcraft.

Numbers 2-4 have always been part of hoodoo. Today, we frown on the torture and killing of animals for spells but traditionally this is a part of hoodoo. Reference:

Dove's blood ink
Bat's blood ink
Bat's heart for gambling and love
Frogs and/or frog bones for gambling work and drawing back a lover
Boiling a black cat to obtain it's magic bone for invisibility, gambling luck and to return a lover
Killing, parching and powdering insects, snakes and lizards to use to put "live things" in people
Killing snails, insects, lizards and reptiles for use in powders, such as "goofer dust"
Killing, using or even ingesting ants in various workings
Killing and using various organs of animals for cures or workings (Hyatt recorded spells using fish, eels, dogs, etc.)

You may remember a few years back where Dr. Kioni tortured and burned alive a rooster as part of an enemy work for a client. The entire online hoodoo community came together, at the instigation of Cat Yronwode, even though what he did is actually something that would have happened all the time in the past. Does that mean I support animal torture and sacrifice? No, it does not. I will not harm an animal. I have a pact with little creatures, especially biting and stinging ones. I will not harm them and they will not harm me. To date I have never been stung by a wasp or bee, have never been bit by a spider, have never been stung by a scorpion, never been bitten by a snake, etc., and in return I do not harm them. The only animals I kill are those animals that attack me first, such as mosquitoes. I will even go as far as giving three warnings to roaches and mice before I lay out traps. I will talk to them three times and tell them that on such-and-such day I will set out traps (or spraying with regards to roaches) and that if they do not want to get caught and die in a trap that they must immediately take up their offspring and leave. Therefore, those that remain and end up trapped and die do so by their own fault/choosing. Otherwise, if other creatures find their way into my home I scoop them up and take them back outside, unharmed. Now, I will use the parts of already deceased animals and insects in my works. If I didn't kill the animal or instigate it's death then no-harm, no-foul.

Question:

"Do you think it's common for a conjure worker to have a "conjure ring"? Or wearing a "conjure ring" isn't as common for a conjure worker in real life?"

Answer:

The wearing of magical rings, especially ones with seals, is primarily found among European and Judeo-Christian ceremonial magic practitioners. The only example that I know of a conjure man wearing a specific magic ring is The Black Constable, a.k.a. John Domingo. He possessed a silver ring in the form of a serpent with ruby eyes that he claimed was made in the Congo. It was said the ring gave him the power to command the spirits. Just an FYI, the Black Constable's ring disappeared upon his death and may in fact still be out there somewhere.

Other than this case, the wearing of amulets and talismans is not unheard of among practitioners. Also keep in mind that many practitioners wear ordinary jewelry, usually silver or gold, which they believe offers them protection.
